Oasism II, Tokyo Opera City Gallery, Japan
Oasism ll, is the sequel of Oasism l(2000, Seoul) where the emphasis was to show our identity and development in relation to the use and organisation of the inner space of the building we squatted in 1991. Since then, Foundation B.a.d has been challenged to reconsider its identity and position in relation to the social and political situation that surrounds it. In collaboration with our neighbours and the local city council the foundation has redeveloped the area around the building into a semi-public inner garden. Oasism II reflects this changed situation. Oasism II proposes an architectural complex to be build at 'Huis ten Bosch' near Nagasaki. It contains the B.a.d building as well as the houses of the neighbours.
These buildings enclose a semi-public inner garden, a place for social exchange. This garden is the main focus of the proposal, as its conditions represent the Dutch social, political and historical landscape. A place in 'Huis ten Bosch' exactly like the place where Foundaton B.a.d resides, and that has become a free zone for exchange.
