Rotterdam-based Iranian artist Sona Asemani (1994) has been focusing on oil painting since 2020, creating female portraits about her challenges in childhood and her early 20s. In ‘Mirror I’ Sona aims to normalise the idea that women’s physical state undergoes changes with the passage of time and their beauty should not be solely defined by their outward appearance.

Philip Riley’s plaster artworks incorporate natural forms gathered from his surroundings. His inspiration in Cyprus, where he is partially based, stems from the pomegranate, a fruit steeped in Greek mythology. At Bad, he takes inspiration from acorns, seeds, and fruit. In ‘Seed Collecting for the 21st Century’, he embodies a contemporary seed collector, preserving his discoveries in plaster to shield flora from future human-made disasters.
