Hydra Ensemble is a Rotterdam-based electroacoustic quartet, featuring cellists Nina Hitz and Lucija Gregov, Gonçalo Almeida on double bass and Rutger Zuydervelt aka Machinefabriek on electronic instrumentation.
Hydra Ensemble is a juncture of four distinctive expressions finding common ground. A four-headed entity of highly pensive collective improvisations, creating an intricate patchwork of parallel melodic lines, textural explorations and expansive drones. Their sonic language articulates free improvisation, minimalism and an experimental foreboding ambience as ominous and majestic as the eponymous many-headed snake of Greek mythology.
