Guest curator of the first exhibition ‘Grondstof’ (Raw Material) is the artist Aletta de Jong
who exhibited last year at the gallery. For ‘Grondstof’ she has invited a diverse range of practitioners from the worlds of art, fashion and design and connects their works through
the ideas and overall design of the exhibition.

Sustainability is an important ingredient of the exhibition whereby the qualities of manufacture is a characteristic of the work on show. Aletta de Jong approaches the notion of sustainability by drawing from the implied long term values of quality of production. In short, it is a reflection on the feel good factor of things we want to keep and feel close to.

The exhibition’s participants are all working in an almost artisanal way and often re-examine the origins of the raw materials they employ: their working methods, materials and ways of production. Some of the work is manufactured on a small scale or is specific to the client or situation. Other works can be customized by the consumer or made to measure. These different yet related forms of production have the potential to re-imagine the relations between the maker, the product and the end user.

On show are paintings by Laurien Dumbar, jewelry by Martine Viergever, the clothes of Sam Cruden, a bespoke wall piece by Jason Coburn, new work by fashion designer Conny Groenewegen and work from recently graduated artist Eric Roelen
