Making B.a.d.
Saturday 16 November 2013
14:00 – 17:00
Lecture program on transformation and renewal.
Organized by Jason Coburn.
Language: English and Dutch
The development of B.a.d from a foundation to an independent association began with the B.a.d. To The Future! (BTTF!) sustainability project. Years of collective research and development lead to many questions and answers, as well as many changes for the organization.
Making B.a.d. is an afternoon program of lectures that reflects on the past, present and future of this process and the knowledge it continues to produce. As well as a short history of the building, the presentations reflect on ambitious and visionary proposals and projects of transformation and renewal.
Karin Arink and Kamiel Verschuren will give a short history of B.a.d. The foundation has now existed for more than 20 years and has maintained its scope for ambitious thinking and practical solutions that has enabled it to provide space for artists for over two decades.
Self Building Building (SBB).
Alexander Zeh (Topika) and Tomasz Jaskiewicz will talk about SBB—a new model for architecture and urbanism that transforms existing top-down building practices into more flexible systems with a bottom-up approach.
Elisabeth Boersma is an urban strategist focusing on social urban transformation. Her talk examines how the negative effects of the crisis can be turned into positive urban development.
Sabrina Lindemann is an artist and curator. She shall talk about her work as creative director at Mobile office Op Trek – a temporary non-pofit organisation of artists whose aim is to visualise and examine the proposed transformation of the Transvaal district of The Hague.
After the talks there is time for drinks and for visiting the Site Specific Squat Project group exhibition.
