something beautifull

Using every medium necessary, my artistic practice focuses on the research of city life. By re-inventing and recreating, intervening and collaborating I create new artistic insights into city life in general. These insights result in work that I place back into the city; which, in its turn, results into new input.

To create a continuum I put myself in the centre of the work. I create and compose, open, close and open again my research. I built a toilethouse on wheels and took it from my studio in Rotterdam to museum Boijmans-van Beuningen in Rotterdam as a gift. The journey through public space was filmed and gave the work a life. Later I used the experience to make a new journey. This time I took a vehicle i built from Rotterdam to an exhibition space in Utrecht. This longer journey was also filmed and shown next to the vehicle in the exhibition.

Next to the central position I take it is also important to share and collaborate with others. This too creates new context and input. Volksrekorders is one of the most recent projects I co-initiated, in which 9 artists work together on a TV-internet platform. Every artist in this collaboration has his or her own position, but contributes to the whole.

Art is not for art, but is a vital part of life. It is never enough: the search to break things open goes on.
